Amy helps clients on their journey to share their stories, find peace behind the podium, and move audiences to action. Amy has been appointed by various Nevada Governors and Senators to four state and federal commissions. She was the first female appointed to the Athletic Commission, better known as the boxing commission. In February 2013, she testified before the Nevada State Assembly and Senate Judiciary Committees, using her personally inspiring survivor story in support of Assembly Bill 67, which increased penalties for those convicted of sex trafficking. Her life story is one of resilience, inspiration and accomplishment and has prompted Culture Dog Films to create a recently-released documentary, The Zen Speaker: Breaking the Silence, that is resonating with anyone interested in turning their personal adversity into personal triumph.</text>

<text>Mayme Stocker arrived reluctantly in Las Vegas in 1911, yet, she was to become the first woman to receive a lawful casino license in 1931 when the state re-legalized gambling.

Mayme was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, to George and Anna May Clifton. The oldest of six children, she had a number of duties around the house. Just as she completed eighth grade, her mother passed away and she took responsibility for raising her siblings.

Mayme married a railroad worker, Oscar Stocker, at the age of sixteen. They had three sons, Clarence, Harold, and Lester. The Stocker family moved around the country following Oscar’s railroad jobs and eventually settled in the young city of Las Vegas where Oscar got a job as an engine foreman in the local railroad yards. The city proved quite the disappointment to Mayme with its limited entertainment options and its lack of amenities like sidewalks and streets.

On September 5, 1920, Mayme Stocker opened the Northern Club on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas and helped it become something of a local landmark. She has been noted frequently as the first to procure a gambling license for the club in 1931 when gambling was re-legalized. However, all of her sons were involved in the business of the Northern Club. By the 1940s, Mayme had relinquished day to day control of her club to others and it operated under several names including the Exchange Club and the Rainbow Club. In 1945, she leased the club to Wilbur Clark.

Mayme lived in Las Vegas the rest of her life and designed her own home in the Huntridge neighborhood. She became an active member in the local Republican Party, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Emblem Club of the local Elks Lodge. She lived to 97 years old and died in 1972.</text>

<text>The Las Vegas High School Rhythmettes traveled the country, making appearances and acting as ambassadors for Las Vegas throughout the 1950s and 1960s. The Rhythmettes were the creation of Evelyn Stuckey.

Stuckey came to Las Vegas in 1948 to teach physical education at Las Vegas High School. She felt that the young women of the school were missing out on the spirit of camaraderie that male athletes experienced and decided to create a group for girls. This new group was a drill team known as the Rhythmettes. The students were enthusiastic about the new group and many students tried out, but the squad was limited to sixteen girls. Stuckey stressed the importance of education, demanding a 3.0 grade point average from all the Rhythmettes. She claimed membership in the squad would teach grace, self-esteem, and leadership.

The Rhythmettes made their first appearances in 1950 and became popular nationwide soon after. They traveled from coast to coast, making appearances in Hollywood and New York City. Articles about the new group appeared in newspapers and magazines across the country. The girls also got the chance to perform on the Ed Sullivan Show and on the Wide World of Sports. The Rhythmettes acted as goodwill ambassadors for Las Vegas and made appearances in local events like Helldorado Days.

Stuckey succeeded in creating a group for high school girls that instilled self-confidence while offering opportunities to travel the country as representatives of Las Vegas. The Rhythmettes disbanded in 1966 due to Stuckey’s poor health. They were restarted in 1974 and she advised them until 1979. Evelyn Stuckey was named Las Vegas Woman of the Year in 1954 and Nevada Outstanding Citizen in 1964. She taught at Las Vegas High School until her death in 1980.</text>
